Seat Belt Safety

If you are looking to educate your community about buckling up, we have options!

Growing On the Go is an interactive measuring tool to help take the guesswork out of choosing the correct car seat.

It's Not Fine 'til They're 4'9" educates and encourages children about staying in a booster seat until they are ready to move to a regular seat belt.

These programs work well both independently and together.

We have Pediatric Safe Transport Devices and continuing education for your ambulance service to help ensure that your pediatric patients get transported safely in the event of an injury or illness.

Growing on the Go

Motor vehicle injuries are a leading cause of death among children in the U.S., but many of these deaths can be prevented. To reduce risk of serious injury and death, properly buckle children in car seats, booster seats, or seat belts appropriate for their age and size.

Know the stages:

It's Not Fine 'til They're 4'9"

SD EMS for Children partners with the SD Office of Highway Safety to promote the correct use of seat belts. As part of this partnership our office has developed the "It's Not Fine 'til They're 4'9" " Community Outreach Program to promote the use of booster seats for children ages 4-12 or until they are 4'9" tall.

This program can be taught at preschools and schools, but also makes a great activity at any event. The resource provided is an instructor booklet that includes age appropriate activities. Based on the description of your event, our office will determine how many booklets we send out.

Safety Stick Request

Safety Sticks are essentially a sticky note with a safety message pre printed on the front. We offer two types, one promoting using your seatbelt, and one promoting driving sober. Each pack of sticky notes alternates two messages:

Seatbelt Safety:

  • You're Going Places. Buckle Up

  • Life's an Adventure. Buckle Up For It.

Due to being pre-printed, there is NOT room to write on the front of the Safety Sticks.

Safety Sticks are a very simple promotion to encourage safety for event participants. Here are some ideas:

  • Add them to papers sent home from school the week before holidays or vacation to encourage students to buckle up.

  • Have student groups distribute the week before state sporting tournaments, Homecoming, Prom, Halloween, etc.

  • Add to programs or hand out at concerts, games, and community events
