SD EMSC and Emergency Departments
Focused Care for Kids in Emergencies
South Dakota Emergency Medical Services for Children (SD EMSC) works with emergency departments to make sure children receive the best care when emergencies happen. We follow guidelines from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to ensure that all the departments across the state are peds ready.
Our Goals:
Pediatric Readiness
Pediatric readiness is the level of preparation an emergency department (ED) has to provide care for children. It includes the resources, guidelines, and staff training needed to care for sick and injured children.
Quality Improvement
We support the National Pediatric Readiness Project by conducting surveys to identify care gaps and help emergency departments improve through targeted improvements, training, and the use of evidence-based medicine.
Training and Education
SD EMSC promotes training programs and workshops to help healthcare workers become better at managing emergencies involving children, creating a culture of being ready and responsive.
Coordinated Care Systems
At SD EMSC we support building systems that allow emergency services, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to work together effectively, ensuring that children get the best help in critical situations.
SD EMSC strives to ensure that emergency departments are prepared to provide excellent care for children in South Dakota, ultimately improving emergency care outcomes.
