Driver's Education Instructor Resources
Our program is called Choices, Chances, Decisions & Stop the Bleed®. This all-encompassing program talks about how the choices, chances, and decisions you make while driving can affect you in the long term. This program is a supplement to the current curriculum taught by a driver's education instructor.
-
Designed for kids 13+
-
Discusses impairment, distracted driving, the importance of seatbelts, and how to share the road with bicyclists
-
We supply a PowerPoint and everything you need to know!
This program also includes:
-
A discussion from our Pediatric Champions about the laws around buckling up in SD, as well as statistics and consequences when they and their passengers choose not to. A segment with real life examples of how choosing to drive impaired can impact everyone involved in a crash. Also included is encouragement for designated driving and what is considered impairment.
-
A conversation about sharing the road with bikes - the laws around it and some real-world examples of the importance of staying alert to everyone using the road.
-
All students will be walked through what to do when they come upon a crash - calling 911, assessing the scene, and learning about wound packing and tourniquets. Each student will receive a Stop the Bleed® Kit ($50 value) after a demonstration.
When held in a Driver's Ed classroom and the class is in a Rural/Frontier community, SD EMSC will supply a Stop the Bleed® kit for each student that completes the training! Have your local Driver's Ed instructor sign up on our website.
